Crossed Structure Binding / Datebook Workshop via Zoom
Saturday, October 23rd, 1:00 - 5:00 PDT (Pacific)
This workshop is being offered by Jody Alexander of Wishi Washi Studio via zoom.
The Crossed Structure Binding is a contemporary binding that possesses charming historical accents. The textblock and cover are integrated creating a sturdy book and then embellished with stitching that is both functional and decorative. This is a great starting point if you are new to bookbinding, but also an innovative structure that experienced book artists love to learn. Perfect for a journal or datebook - this structure is a personal favorite!
Every year, for over 20 years, I have been making myself a datebook using the Crossed Structure Binding.
In this workshop, I will walk students through how to bind the book and then make suggestions and show you how to make the book into a datebook.
There will be NO kit - but rather I will guide you through gathering the tools and materials that you will need to create a successful book during the workshop and in the future with materials that are accessible to you.
I'm encouraging students to use recycled materials for the cover of this book: file folders, cereal box, etc. But, many papers will work.
Students will need the following tools: mat knife, awl, bone folder, ruler, glue brush, needle.
Students will need the following materials: cover material, text weight paper for pages, linen thread for binding, glue, pen and pencil.
Finished book size will be 5 5/8 x 4 3/8
More details regarding tools and materials will be sent upon registration.
No refunds after October 18th.
The workshop will be recorded and available for 2 weeks following the workshop date.
Workshop price: $75.00
